Privacy Policy for Teens

👋 Hi there.

This privacy policy is written just for you. It explains what happens to your information when you take part in our surveys and research studies.

We do not collect any of your personal information until you agree to take part in a survey.

Knit is a company that helps brands (like toy companies, snack makers, and game developers) understand what kids and teens think about their products. When you answer our questions or record videos for us, you're helping these brands make better stuff for people like you.

🔍 What information do we collect about you?

When you take part in one of our surveys, we may collect:

  • Your age – To make sure you can take part in the survey
  • Where you live (your city and country, not your exact address) – To understand who is answering our questions
  • Your gender – To make sure we hear from different people
  • Your ethnicity – To make sure we hear from different people
  • Your answers to survey questions – This is the main reason you're here
  • Videos or voice recordings you make – If the survey asks you to record yourself

We do not collect:

  • Your full name
  • Your home address
  • Your phone number
  • Your school's name

🤔 Why do we collect your information?

We collect your information to:

  • Help brands understand what you think – Your opinions help companies make better products for kids and teens
  • Make sure the right people take our surveys – Some surveys are only for certain ages or locations
  • Pay you for your time – If the survey offers a reward, we need to know who to send it to

We will never use your information to:

  • Send you ads
  • Sell your information to other companies for money
  • Make decisions about you using only computers (a real person always reviews things)

👀 Who sees your information?

Knit employees can see your survey answers and videos in order to run the research and help brands understand your feedback.

The brand that asked for the research (like a toy company) can see your survey answers, videos, and the city where you live — for research and marketing, like learning what you think about their products.

Our technology partners may see your information as it passes through their systems, in order to help us run surveys and store your answers safely.

Our technology partners include:

  • Pipe Services S.R.L. – Used to record video and audio from surveys. Videos are securely stored temporarily on Pipe until they are transferred to the Knit database, at which time they are deleted by Pipe.
  • Qualtrics – Powers the Knit surveys and stores all information provided via the survey.
  • OpenAI and AI technologies – Used by Knit to aggregate and evaluate survey data.
  • Amazon Web Services and MongoDB – Survey and participant data is stored on these platforms.

Your survey answers are only shared with the specific brand that created your survey, not with every partner we work with. Knit and the brand use your responses for research and marketing purposes. Once we share your information with a brand, they have their own rules about how they handle it.

If you or your parent has any questions about our data privacy collection and use practices, or to request access to review or delete a child's information, please contact us at info@goknit.com or privacy@goknit.com.

🔒 How do we keep your information safe?

We take keeping your information safe seriously. Here's what we do:

  • We use passwords and special codes (encryption) to protect your information
  • Only people who need to see your information can access it
  • We test our systems regularly to make sure they're secure
  • We have a plan ready in case something goes wrong
  • We train all our employees on how to protect your information

✋ Your rights – What you can ask us to do

You have rights over your information. Here's what you can ask us to do:

  • See your information – You can ask us to show you what information we have about you
  • Fix mistakes – If we got something wrong, you can ask us to fix it
  • Delete your information – You can ask us to delete your information (though sometimes we might need to keep some of it for legal reasons)
  • Get a copy – You can ask for a copy of your information in a format you can take somewhere else
  • Say no to marketing – You can tell us not to send you marketing messages
  • Complain – If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to us or to a data protection authority

To use any of these rights, you or your parent/guardian can contact us (see the "How to contact us" section below).

👨‍👩‍👧 Your parent or guardian's role

If you're under 18, your parent or guardian needs to give permission before you can take part in our surveys.

Here's how it works:

  • We ask your parent or guardian for their permission
  • We work with a company called PRIVO to check that they really are your parent or guardian
  • Only after they say "yes" can you take part

Your parent or guardian can:

  • See what information we have about you
  • Ask us to delete your information
  • Change their mind and take back their permission at any time
